13u Rapids Thunder – Gold

November 16, 2019 – This weekend our girls 13u Rapids Thunder competed in the Provincial Cup tournament in North York at Havergal College.  The girls started the day with a great effort against a strong Oakville Thunder team.  They came out strong and took it right to them claiming their first victory.  They took that start and built on it all throughout the day,not dropping a set until the championship game.

Every game they played, they gained more confidence and became more efficient. The girls showed that with a total team effort that they have what it takes to stand above the rest. It was a long day but there at the end of it, there stood our young ladies.  After a tough fought final, (again against the Oakville Thunder) our girls were able to call themselves champions. It was a hard fought match that saw lots of great play on both sides of the net.  The team had to dig deep late in the third set, and figure out a way to focus and find that next gear to push past their opponents and claim the victory.  As coaches it was great to see the team take what they’ve been learning and execute when they had to.

Every one of the girls played very well but a we would like to take a moment to acknowledge, Matea Dibacco, and Aurora Blundell for their steady play in every match.  Ali Schultz and Madi Haverkamp both showed a great ability to refocus and be two players  we can count on down the stretch.
The most exciting thing that we take out of this first tournament of the year is that every member of our team, contributed in one way or another at a crucial part of a point or game. This lets us know we have a team of MVP’s.  We can’t wait to do it all over again.
Great job ladies!  Your coaches and parents are all very proud of how you’ve started the season.
Keep it up!!
